Our department is responsible for teaching the subject of pathology which is the study of disease dealing with the structural, biochemical, and functional changes of the diseased cells, tissues and organs. Through this study pathology can explain the scientific bases of the disease process as will as the causes behind the clinical signs and symptoms . It thus serves as the bridge between the basic sciences and clinical medicine, and is considered the scientific foundation for all of medical sciences .
We are also responsible for teaching the subject of forensic medicine and toxicology which is responsible for dealing with medico-legal cases.
The department of pathology also has a major role in university health services regarding the histological and pathological diagnosis of surgical and cytological specimen
