Objectives

1- Academic objectives:
The Department is responsible for teaching the subject of Pathology to undergraduate students in faculties of; Medicine, Dental, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Medical Technology.
Our main objectives is to train students for:
Utilization of the basic science literature of cell anatomic, histological, and physiologic normality to interpret clinical and morphological changes.
Correlation between mechanisms underlying disease processes, morphologic (gross, cellular, and ultrastructural), physiologic, and biochemical changes and clinical features and complications of diseases.
Application of basic knowledge and skills in solving clinical problems and interpretation between the morphologic features and pathogenetic factors to the common clinical conditions as well as he will develop concepts and sufficient understanding of the subject to be able to pursue post-graduate studies and continuing medical education.
Forensic medicine and toxicology subject is concerned with acquiring students the skills of examining, determining and write a certificate to medico-legal cases.
Acquiring many learning and social skills as; self learning, Peer communication, team workو and how to use electronic resources.
Acquire the ability to identify and find appropriate solutions to medical problems.
Understand the role of the pathologists as a member of an integrated medical team responsible for the diagnosis of the medical case, and the identification of the appropriate treatment.
Learn how to care and preserve tissues taken from patients till delivered to the laboratory in good condition for diagnosis.
2- Clinicopathological objectives:

Examine surgical specimens and cytological preparations.
Interpret morphological changes of the disease
In correlation to clinical manifestations, lab investigations and radiological findings of the disease.
Acquire the ability to identify and find appropriate solutions to medical problems.
Evaluation of acquired skills and knowledge of students
Give students the opportunity to share in variable research work in the department.
3- Professional training:
The department is providing training programs to:
Medical technology 4th year students and house officers
The training include ;
Understand general facts, know how to use various equipments, prepare solutions necessary for the conservation of tissues, prepare, cut and color slides. Acquisition of the skills of managing surgical specimens and cytological preparations.
Preparation of paraffin-embedded and frozen sectionsز
Staining using different methods of histochemical and immunohistochemical techniques
Try to understand and interpret the different colors of the samples further to microscopic examination.
4- Hospital service:
Diagnosis of all surgical specimens and cytological preparations
Provide intraoperative consultation services.
provide consultation services to other MOH hospitals [including ancillary techniques ( special stains, immunohistochemical stains) to enforce diagnosis
5- Research activities:
The department is encouraging research team to achieve updated researches , and scientific projects.
